The potency-enhancing active ingredient Tadalafil is used in men to treat erectile dysfunction. Like Sildenafil, Vardenafil and Avanafil, it is one of the so-called PDE-5 inhibitors. However, Tadalafil has a significantly longer duration of action of 36 hours.
At 17.5 hours, Tadalafil has a significantly longer half-life than Sildenafil (Viagra), Vardenafil or Avanafil. While the effect lasts 4 to 6 hours for sildenafil, 8 to 12 hours for vardenafil and 6 to 17 hours for avanafil, it can last up to 36 hours for tadalafil. The effects usually begin after an hour, but it can take up to six hours to notice an effect.
